The
Traditional and Alternative Health practices in Tanzania has a long
history. Due to its importance in 2002, the Act No. 23 was enacted by
the Parliament of United Republic of Tanzania to make provisions for the
promotions, control and regulations of traditional and alternative
medicine practice, to establish the Traditional and Alternative Health
Practice Council and to provide for related matters.
The Council is composed of legally
qualified persons and a registrar of the council and appointed by the
Minister after consultation with the Council and acts as the Secretary
to the Council.
Generally the functions of the council
are to monitor the development of traditional medicine in the country;
to regulate and promote traditional medicine practice; to support the
development of traditional medicine and to implement the provisions of
the Act.
